Rosehill Farm Mini Sessions in the Hudson Valley

Short, sweet, and beautifully unhurried - Hudson Valley mini sessions at Rosehill Farm for couples, families, and the in between moments worth remembering.

Rosehill Farm is one of my favorite places in the Hudson Valley, and it makes the most of a short shoot. Tucked into the hills of Red Hook, New York, this working orchard has everything you’d want from a mini session: apple and cherry blossoms in spring, a quiet pond framed by a twisted willow, sloping fields, and a classic red barn on the hill. Whether you’re planning an engagement session, updated family photos, or a no occasion needed afternoon with the people you love, a Rose Hill mini session fits beautifully into a Saturday afternoon.

Rosehill Farm Mini Sessions Are Perfect For…

Mini sessions at Rosehill Farm are short, relaxed shoots — usually 20 to 30 minutes — designed to give you a small but beautiful gallery of images without the time (or investment) of a full session. They’re some of the most versatile shoots I offer:

  • Engaged couples looking for a Hudson Valley engagement session in a dreamy orchard setting

  • Families who want updated portraits — new baby, big kids growing up, grandparents visiting, or just “we haven’t done this in too long”

  • Couples celebrating an anniversary or wanting photos just because

  • Maternity, motherhood, or milestone birthday portraits

  • Extended families meeting up in the Hudson Valley for a weekend

Same location, same golden light, same unhurried energy — the shoot adapts to you.

Why Rosehill Farm Is a Dreamy Hudson Valley Mini Session Location

Rosehill Farm feels like it was made for film-style photos. The property layers in so many different backdrops that you get real variety without ever needing to move the car — which matters a lot when you’re working with the shorter window of a mini session.

  • Rows of apple and cherry trees that bloom pink and white every spring

  • A quiet pond framed by a dramatic willow tree

  • Sloping green fields with a classic red barn in the distance

  • Long gravel paths, wildflowers, and big open sky

Because every corner of the farm looks different, a 20- or 30-minute Hudson Valley mini session here never feels rushed — whether it’s the two of you, the whole family, or three generations.

A Spring Afternoon at Rosehill Farm

These images are from a spring mini session at Rosehill Farm — the apple trees were just starting to blossom, the willow by the pond had filled out, and the afternoon light did what it always does here. We wandered the orchard rows, made our way down to the water, and eventually kicked off our shoes to lay in the grass. That’s the energy of a Rose Hill session: unhurried, barefoot, and very much yours.

An engagement session and a family session feel different, of course — but the setting, the pacing, and the kind of images you walk away with are the same. Soft. Real. Hudson Valley at its best.

The Best Time of Year for a Rosehill Farm Mini Session

Rosehill shines in every season, but each one has its own personality. Here’s a quick guide to help you pick the vibe you’re after — whether you’re planning engagement photos, family portraits, or anything in between:

If a specific look matters to you (blossoms, fall color, a snowy field), I recommend locking in a date 6–8 weeks ahead — those windows are short, and Hudson Valley mini session dates fill up quickly.
  • Late April – mid May: Apple and cherry blossoms, soft pinks and whites, fresh spring green. My personal favorite, and the season of the photos on this page.
  • June – August: tall grass, wildflowers, and long golden-hour light in the fields. Great for families with young kids who move better outdoors.
  • Late September – October: apple-picking season, warm tones, heavy orchard branches, crisp Hudson Valley light. This is peak demand for family sessions — book early.
  • November – March: bare branches, big moody skies, and a quiet farm all to yourselves — beautiful for couples who love something a little different.

Book a Session

Life rarely lines up neatly with a handful of scheduled mini session slots - especially if you’re coordinating family coming in from out of town, a growing belly, or a proposal you’re trying to keep quiet. If none of the listed dates work, just reach out. I’m always happy to arrange an alternate date at Rosehill Farm whenever the season and schedule allow.

Send me a note with the week or two you’re aiming for and who’ll be in the photos, and I’ll come back with options.

  • bsolutely. Rosehill is about a 2-hour drive from Manhattan, or a short cab / uber ride from the Rhinecliff Amtrak stop - one of the most scenic Hudson Valley mini session locations you can reach in a day.

  • Soft, natural fabrics that move with you photograph beautifully against the orchard and pond - linen, cotton, flowy dresses, earth tones. For families, I recommend coordinating rather than matching; I send every client a full styling guide after booking.
